New Year/New Beginning/New Website!

When a new year rolls around its a great opportunity to you look around to see what can be improved. With fresh eyes new things can be revealed. This January, I took a hard look at my website and decided something needed to change.

I handcrafted my site in 2005. I'm not a html coder by trade but I hacked it together and it worked. Every few years I would tweak it—html to php one year, larger images the next but I never really changed the original design or altered the code to fit the changing technological landscape. These days with multiple devices, browsers and operating systems I decided to let the experts deal with the code and I upgraded to Squarespace.

After a few weeks of designing, copy fitting and image editing the site is here.
Some of the new features include:

—Large dynamic images that work across different screen sizes,
     Check out huge images from all my projects including:
     imaginary wars, black sun project and ten convenient stores.
     Also, check out the large images for I'm a PC, Midtown Past Midnight or an editorial
     on the Domino Sugar Factory.

—Image galleries now have index pages so you can see the whole project at once.

—Newly added galleries for Grind–Broadway, Applegate Farms and a
     new dedicated portraits section.

—New logo design.

—Cleaned up blog.

New Work: Grind Broadway

Recently, I photographed the latest New York location of Grind. Located on Broadway and 39th Street, Grind is a members only workspace for freelancers and small businesses. It's the inverse model of going to a coffee shop, paying for coffee and using a table as an office. At Grind, you pay to be in the office space, enjoy free wifi and a bottomless Intelligentsia Coffee. No odd looks when you take advantage of their wifi all day and only sip one cup of joe. The working environment is set up to encourage a free exchange between people and businesses using the space–an element rarely seen in the traditional 'coffice.'

I have been working hard updating my site. Most of my images are now 25% larger. I have also edited some of the work and added several new sections. New piece in Imaginary Wars series, The Invaders.

This new piece is included along with two others in the upcoming exhibition at the Photographic Resource Center (PRC) at boston university: EXPOSURE: The 15th Annual PRC Juried Exhibition.

New Section: Beijing Olympics, China at a crossroads

After shooting the "I'm a PC" Microsoft campaign, I traveled to China to experience the Olympic games in Beijing. I was amazed with the visual ecstasy of Beijing and the blossoming of Chinese culture and power. I was also struck by the many contradictions and mysteries that were rapidly evolving right as they were hosting the Summer Games. The images that are up on my site are only a sampling of the larger body of work. More will be added soon.

New Section: architecture, midtown past midnight

During the first year of grad school, I set out photographing the structures of midtown New York. This project carried me through the year. I must have ventured out to photograph close to 20 times. I arrived in midtown around midnight and shot for several hours. The lobbies of these structures are contrived to communicate the marriage of space and structure.
